*Mr Reed was delighted to have won a prize but was not able to use the bag so offered it as a prize for charity.  Tricia Pavelin, the owner of Finale and Ruby shops in Maldon, was very pleased to donate it to charity instead.  Mr Reed chose Essex Air Ambulance and Tricia will be handing the prize over to Diane Leggett from the charity this afternoon.

Lynne Raymond from Ansell’s Butchers said that as Mr Reed had kindly donated his prize to charity, they were delighted to give him a £20 voucher as he had entered the prize draw in their shop!

Mary Powell, owner with husband, Graham, of The Emporium and Chairman of the Maldon Business Association which is piloting Think Local in Maldon High Street before it is rolled out throughout the district, said  ‘I was delighted with the launch of Think Local last Saturday and am very pleased today that three customers who support our local businesses and activities will be receiving some lovely prizes.  Mr Reed’s gesture in donating his prize to Essex Air Ambulance is very generous as is Ansell’s award of a voucher to their customer.  It is also very much in the spirit of Think Local which is about supporting all sectors, activities and events, not just shops.  Every month, we will be having a prize draw with great prizes which will be publicised in participating businesses, Maldon and Burnham Standard, About My Area and the Maldon Business Association’s website

Mystery Shopper best shop window

As part of the Think Local launch, a mystery shopper from the Federation of Small Businesses chose the Maldon Fireplace Centre as having the best shop window!   Owners, Steve and Yvette Scholz, were delighted to have been chosen, especially as they have just recently opened the shop in the High Street.  Their prize is a place on a Mary Portas Masterclass for owners of independent retailers.

If you own a business or are involved in an organisation or activity and would like to learn more about this campaign, please contact Jenny Lewsey, Business Development Officer at Maldon District Council or click on the Think Local logo on the home page to go to the Council website.
